What Its About: To a bunch of kids, living on a beautiful island with sunshine, plenty of food and play, and no adults, sounds great. And it is, except when the boat arrives for "The Changing".
When the boat arrives, a new, younger orphan child is dropped off. But "Nine on an island, orphans all..." means that the oldest must go. No one has ever questioned this before, despite sad goodbyes. But now it's Jinny's turn and she is not ready. So she decides to stay. Will the sky fall, as everyone always says? Perhaps. But if she goes, what happens then? Where is she going? And why?
Spoiler alert: don't expect any answers, just more questions.
I enjoyed this read. I was able to get through it in two days, rare for me. Its simple reading, but it is oh so deep too.
