Monday Mailbox - 06/13/16

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.

What better to do while on vacation than buy books?!

My awesome vacation week started with the annual town library's book sale last Saturday. But this year I was smart! I finally updated my Goodreads.com account to show which books l own, so I didn't bring home any doubles...as I have for several years now.

The sale was fabulous, as always!

A couple of these are books I started but need to finish.
So many great choices!

Sometimes its OK to buy a couple you already read, right?

More for my growing collection...

Now I just have to get these updated on Goodreads too!

Monday Mailbox - 01/04/16

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles, and humongous wish lists.

The great thing about being an avid reader is that everyone wants to give you books for Chistmas. The bad thing about being an avid reader is that no one knows which books to get you, because you might already have read what they buy....so they don't buy you any.

But sometimes, they buy you gift certificates instead which is awesome!

I got three this year and when I went to put them in my wallet I discovered that I had multiple that still had balances on them from previous years (how is that even possible?!?). So, I went shopping!

After hitting a local bookstore, I went online for some ebook bargains:

- A Little History of the World by Gombrich, EH
- Turner House by Flournoy, Angela
- A Call of the Farm by Bilow, Rochelle
- Men We Reaped - ward, Jesmyn
- A Walk to Beautiful by Wayne, Jimmy
- Coming Clean by Miller, Kimberly

And of course over vacation I visited my favorite cheap media store...

And when I was done, I still had a sizable chunk left, so more shopping is in my future!!

Monday Mailbox - 11/30/15

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.

Honestly, I can't quite remember everything that arrived over these past months...or how they all came to me, but below are just a few peeks into what found its way home while I was resting from blogging.

These were from a local store that sells used media (books, CDs,DVDs, etc.), as well as new of course, for reduced prices.

A little non-fiction, this is they guy who wrote and sang that song at the end of Good Will Hunting, Miss Misery...

Some flea market finds...

Now if only I could find the time!!

Mondays and Monday Mailbox - 06/23/14

Monday Mailbox hosted by Marcia @ To Be Continued.  It's Monday! hosted by Sheila @ Book Journey.

Now Reading:
Amy, My Daughter (Mitch Winehouse)

Still have all those awesome birthday books On Deck, but once again my options have expanded!

If you recall, my local library's Friends group had a book sale a couple weeks ago.

"What pray-tell do they do with all those leftover books?", you ask.

(ok, you didn't, but let's just say you did for consistency's sake)

Well, turns out that they unload them at summer events at the local lake. This weekend was the Festival By the Lake and they had a booth where they offered the books FREE! Oh yes she did! She just used the words FREE and BOOKS in the same sentence! They basically just ask for "donations" for the group.

That Loving Frank book kept following me around.  Regardless of where I went, it was there. I finally took the point and grabbed it.

I happened to have a couple hours available Saturday morning and took a drive over (my first festival in the several years I've lived here, so the FREE thing was new to me) with a handful of plastic bags. Less than a half an hour later, I had another three bags full!

My only complaint was the push and shove that was necessary to get to the good stuff. I hate crowds! But I can elbow with the best of them if need be and got some more really great books, many of which are on my TBR list.

I don't know how much they had left (the booth was much smaller than the set up at the sale), so they might have been bringing out new books all day. But I had other responsibilities so I settled for my three bags.
Children's books too!

Of course, I left a nice donation and then hoofed it back to my car.

Quite a walk, but it was worth it!

Mondays & Monday Mailbox - 06/9/14

Monday Mailbox hosted by Marcia @ To Be Continued.  It's Monday! hosted by Sheila @ Book Journey.

Now Reading:
The Big Tiny: A Built-It-Myself Memoir (Dee William

I'm just about done with this one, and have so many great choices for my next read! Not only do I have a bunch of awesome birthday purchases still On Deck, but also...this past weekend was my local library's book sale...

I haven't made a sale since I moved to town a few years back, but have wanted too badly. I happened to have an hour free Saturday and headed over. I was worried that they would be sold out of the good stuff as the sale ran Thursday and Friday nights, and then Saturday as well.

Boy was I surprised! They had thousands of books and many of them were recent and still on my TBR list!

$40 later (they charge $0.50 - $2.00 per book, rather than doing the bag for $5 kind of thing), I had three bags full and could easily have kept going! Thankfully, I had a rehearsal to get to before I had to call the hubby and discuss mortgaging the house! HA!

I am so overwhelmed by all the amazing choices, I'm not sure what to do!

Best buy of the day:

Seriously funny, even for an animal lover, with adorable goodies like the following...

Well worth the $0.50 I paid!

I can't wait until next year's sale!!

Monday Mailbox - 06/18/12

Courtesy of Microsoft.com
Mailbox Monday is on tour at Burton Book Review for the month of June.
I do not usually have the opportunity to take part in Monday Mailbox!

Most of my reading is courtesy of my local library. When I started my blog, I jumped on the ARC bandwagon, but quickly found that I either could not read them in time or they were not what I expected and therefore weren't receiving great reviews from me. Besides, with a TBR list of over 5,000, who has time to waste on books that just weren't on your list to start with?!

So, I quickly decided that I wouldn't do ARC's much anymore.
But, after avoiding them for a while, a couple offers came in that were already on my TBR list and any chance to reduce that list is a go!

So, I asked for and received them both. I've just started reading the first, Brad Paisley's Diary of a Player and so far am LOVING it! It is no surprise that I am a country music fan and, honestly, Brad seems to just be a really nice, normal guy...who got incredibly lucky.
I also got Helga Zeiner's Section 132 and I've started it, so I just haven't gotten far enough in to decide what I think.  So, you will just have to come back in July to see my full reviews!

I am a library goer. I very rarely buy books and rarely get them (I read so much, folks are afraid to buy me something I have). But this week, I received my first ever ARC. It was kind of exciting! I am looking forward to reading and reviewing this book as soon as I can...
