Bastard Out of Carolina

Dorothy Allison

Profound portrait of family dynamics in the rural South won the author a National Book Award nomination... (Amazon)

I've had this one for a while and honestly, I have no good reason for not getting to it! I think I started it once, but never finished. It looks really interesting and I am determined to make it through!

I've read this one. It's a book that's hard to put down, but also very hard to read. Very distressing, awful stuff happens to young people. It's one I know I won't want to read again.

Interesting choice! I've never read it, but it looks like a fascinating (but probably hard to get through due to the subject matter) read. Let us know how it is! Happy A-Zing!

That's good to know, Jeane. I'll save buying this one for when I'm ready to tackle it.

This sounds a fascinating but perhaps difficult book given Jeane's comment. Not ready for more trauma yet, but I am interested in reading it.

I loved this book. A read it quite a while ago, but it stayed with me. I seem to remwmber starting it and stopping . I didn't get into immediately , but at the encouragement of a friend, I started it a second time and for the life of me I can't remember why I wasn't immediately hooked the first time. It's an excellent but depressing story.
