Not Afraid of Life - Palin

Not Afraid of Life: My Journey So Far, by Bristol Palin, is an invitation to sit down with Bristol, have a cup of coffee and a chat. She presents herself in such a relaxed manner, you can't help but see that she is just the girl next door...who's mom just happened to end up the Republican candidate for Vice President!  Eh, things happen, right?

Growing up in Alaska the second child of five of Sarah and Todd Palin, Bristol had a pretty good life. She was popular, pretty, athletic and financially comfortable.  Life was pretty good.

But "Bristol the Pistol" gets her chutzpah from her mother.  And like her or not, Sarah Palin is a fire cracker! And, Bristol learned well.

Bristol it turns out, likes bad boys.  And despite her family's religious beliefs, she allows that to get her into bad situations. Ultimately, she finds herself a pregnant teen, with an unreliable and untrustworthy boyfriend. Then, John McCain comes knocking and suddenly Bristol can no longer hide out in good 'ole Alaska. She is forced to face her mistakes, along with and at the hands of the rest of the country.

Ultimately, I liked Bristol Palin. Yeh, she's a bit too anti- ex-boyfriend, but she does appear to be justified and she really is just a kid who's been hurt and is dealing with that.  She is also way to "rah, rah mommy" for my taste, but who doesn't love their mother that much?  Ultimately, Palin's memoir is honest and inviting.

I would recommend it to anyone who has any interest in memoirs or politics.

3/5- Good. Read it, have a good time and move on. Or not.

I can't help but sympathize with her having to go through what she did in view of the entire U.S. public. That has got to be hard. And her boyfriend seems like a real jerk. Hopefully she will have a wonderful life and find a good man for herself at one point.
